More Poker

Wed. Poker: Out $40, IN $270
Ross SitnGO: Out $60, IN $0
Ross 0.25-0.50: Out $60, IN $78

A couple of notes about the game last night (Ross's Games). I made a brutal error in the SitnGo making me 3rd out. Starting stacks were 1500 and the initial blinds were 15-30, Ross said that he programmed his blind machine to make the tourney last 5 hours, but had no idea what the blinds would be. The mistake occurred at the end of the first level;
  • as UTG + 1 I made it 80 to go with 88.
  • small blind called and big blind (Randy T) made it $200. I called and the button called.
  • flop comes 762 rainbow. BB leads out all in for 600. I think how sick this is but he could make that play with A7 or even just AK, or AQ. I didnt take the button into account, I left my self with under 400 chips. The button the instantly goes all-in for all my chips. My stomach sinks but I call anyway (Why did I do this? I went into the tank for about 3 min), I am so idiotic.
  • turns out the BB had AA and the button of course had us both crushed with 7♦6♦
Thats it I was out of the SitnGO, in the future I will need to consider all the people in the hand because in hind sight; I should have figured out that the button hit that flop hard, and I could probably have figured out Randy had AA or KK. But as they say Hindsight is 20-20.

The little cash game after was almost painful. I got otu flopped a couple times for big pots but overall considering the low stakes of the game, it could be quite profitable. If only based on the people playing the game. I had AA out flopped by QQ for upwards of $40; the hand played itself. The other was only for about $10 but the same opponent flopped a straight flush with I think 7♣4♣ I am still not sure why she was in that hand but good for her. From my point of view the pot was laying me approximately 7-1 for my nut Flush draw so I called.

At the end of the night I racked back my buy-in into the cash game and a tidbit of my tournament buy-in. I will probably take part in the tournament in the future.

There are a couple things I noticed that I will have to clarify;
Ross mentioned when they got to 3 that there was to be no chops.
They also seem to force an all-in (cash game) to turn over their cards immediately, I am not sure if this stems from the fact that they all play little tournaments all the time.

I dont like to chop but it should always be an option in my mind. And if I were the all-in with crap I would prefer not to show until the hand is done.

Catch Up

It has been a long time since I last updated the amount of money flying out of my poket.

Here is what is down with my monies...

$1-$2: Out $400, In $0
June 13th, Wed: Out $80, In$0
June 27th, Wed: Out $60, In $220
July 4th, Wed: Out $100, In $0
July 7th, $1-$2: Out $260, In $360
July 10th,$1-$2: Out $200, In $150

Total: Out $1100, In $730

I have been struggling with my bankroll lately and last night I realized (with the help of a mister G-Bone) that I might not be considering my bankroll when I am playing.

The last night I was up from my buy in of $250 to approximately $380. On the last hand of the night I put GNOD on a weak hand somewhere between preflop and when the flop came down. And I decided I would see what I could do to take the pot away from him;

I think I had Q♣10♣. GNOD bet, Guy Called and I Raised. GNOD calls, and Guy Folds. Flop Comes Down K98 (rainbow), I bet $26 and GNOD reraises (makes it $52 awkwardly {tried to make it $40}). Now if GNOD has a K in this spot its probably weak and that should allow for a steal somewhere down the line. I call. The turn comes a 7, I check and GNOD bets a piddly $19 (down from the last bet). This is where I think my mistake was, I call. The river comes a 3♠ and I lead out $78. After going into the tank for a few minutes he makes the call. GNOD takes the pot with KJ(offsuit) I think. Even with my error it was a good call by GNOD; well done my hat is off to you ;-)

In retrospect the hands leading up to this didnt do much for a tight image, as I had been rolling through the last 5 pots or so. I dont mind the bet on the flop as I think that the I bet based on my read. Frankly, I was surprised at the time to see the flop; based on my estimation of GNOD's hand. The flop is Ok, although maybe I should have lead out, the flop gave me the most reason to get out of dodge. Really I should have probably gotten out of dodge right here. On the turn I think if I made a substantial re-raise I take it down. Unfortunately, in my head as I was acting was "lets see If I complete my open-ended on the cheap". Whoops, I really didnt care if I hit or not as I was going to bet anyway.

I might get Guy to refresh my memory of the action because I may be mistaken in some places. In future I will not be so curious as to test out my opponents on the last hand of the night, I'm an idiot.

Have fun,

Steve0

Back to Holdem

Ok, so I was a little under the weather last night and shouldnt have been playing poker. I thought I was playing well (although fairly conservatively). I got a little cold decked, and made some suspicious calls.

There was one hand where with some back information the player told me he was strong. This time, however, the tell was much more pronounced. Staring at the flop, followed by debate over how much to bet (there was never a doubt in his mind that he wouldn't). While the debate was going on I told myself it didn't matter how much he bet. I was going to see his cards. I had to know, if the tell was right this time then it will be right every time.

Normally when a player stares at the board after the card comes down it is a signal of weakness, in this case I am confident they do it to make sure they have as good a hand as the think. It was definitely an unconscious tell. This player will make no more money from me. And in this case they had the NUTS (that's why it was more pronounced).

All in all it was an OK night, with its up and downs. Its the runner-runners and the people backing their way into hands that gets me down. All I can do is keep observing and strive to make correct decisions.

Atheist Quiz

I took this interesting quiz today after reading this http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2007/05/another_christian_science_fair.php

Outie

You scored as Spiritual Atheist, Ah! Some of the coolest people in the world are Spiritual Atheists. Most of them weren't brought up in an organized religion and have very little baggage. They concentrate on making the world a better place and know that death is just another part of life. What comes after, comes after.

Razz.

I can't believe my first post is about razz. A little background info might be helpful;

Wednesday nights a group of us poker crazies in YK get together to play holdem for weekly points contributing 10% of the pot to a pool for a freeroll event at the end of the 'session'. This session usually spans a few months.

Some notes on the regular game structure;
  • Format: NL Texas Holdem
  • Starting Chips: 100
  • Buy-in: $20 Rebuy for 2 hrs + Add on after 2 hrs
  • Starting Time: 7pm
  • Ending Time: This is the wack part, if we do not have a winner at 11:15 we do a chip count.
  • Structure:
    • 1-2, 30min
    • 2-4, 30min
    • 3-6, 30min
    • 4-8, 30min
    • 5-10, 30min
    • 10-20, 45min
    • 20-40, 45min
    • 40-80, 15min
  • The game is generally fairly loose and really aggressive as our regulars play alot of poker week-in and week-out with the same group.
So, now to Razz, as a break from the monotony of NL Holdem (and between 'sessions') we decided to play 7-handed razz last night. We did not change the structure. This resulted in NL Razz (uncommon) with no antes (crazy).

Long story short; we had a lot of grumpy people, one out pre-freezeout (an extremely rare occurence), a player in for $200, and a total nightly kitty of ~$520.

In retrospect, I played well but unforunately I just picked up some great hands on the last 2 streets! :-(

Next week is 7-card Stud; I will not be playing as I'm off to Sudbury to bowl in the C5PBA Team event. Good luck me!

In future I will strive to reproduce some hands here for future reflection.
